We sure do have a busy fall – join us for some amazing events!
I am really excited about this fall. The Heart of New Ulm Project has some amazing events planned! I can’t wait for all of them.
We start things off with the U. S. Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin, coming to New Ulm to kick off and participate in the New Ulm Day of Play. The Day of Play will take place on September 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Martin Luther College. The Heart of New Ulm Project and New Ulm Medical Center have partnered with the college to bring the free event to area families.
It is because of this event Dr. Benjamin decided to visit New Ulm. She will only be able to join us for a short time that day, but we are excited to have her visit and see the great work our community is doing. For more information, click here.
In October, we’re holding our annual Worksite Summit, where lifestyle expert Joe Piscatella will speak about stress and how it affects our ability to make those healthy behavior changes we’ve all tried to make in our lives. Joe is the oldest living survivor of heart bypass surgery (had surgery 35 years ago).
On November 15, we have our Fifth Annual Community Summit. I am so excited for this year’s speaker, Dan Gable. If you know anyone who wrestles or is active in the wrestling community, you’ve heard of Dan. If not, here is a little bit about him. Dan coached the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) to 15 NCAA titles. His record for his 21-year wrestling career is 355-2-1. He coached 45 national champions, had seven perfect seasons and was the U.S. Olympic Head Coach. Oh -- and he won his own gold medal in the 1972 Olympic games.
Dan will speak about motivation and overcoming obstacles in life to meet goals. He is a great speaker for all ages. Not only as a die-hard Hawkeye fan am I ecstatic to have Dan here, but I believe he has a great message that will resonate with our community members. Look for more information about the Community Summit coming soon.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our SWAP IT to DROP IT campaign that just launched. The idea is to SWAP one healthy habit for an unhealthy habit. So SWAP water in place of your soda and you’ll save 100 calories. I think this is our best campaign yet.
Come out and enjoy these great events!
